My road tax expired at end of Nov. I won't be driving my car from the 12th until the new year, and it will be off the road. Do I have to get it taxed for December, or can I do it when I take it back on the road in Jan?

Declare it SORN by filling out the form then tax it in January

Better SORN it or they'll send you a nice bill in the post, my friend has found out the hard way. Looks like DVLA have a nice new (and working) computer system.

Backdate the SORN notice to within Nov - they can't handle it even if they get it 'late'
