Just received court summons - for speeding at 103 on A1m at beginning of November. The letter states I have to attend courtin Harrogate if I plead guilty - on 29th December!! Nice time of year to have it. And if I plead an 'early' plea, I will get a lighter sentence - the date on the letter is 20/11 - the date on the envelope - 4/12!!!!
I can't afford to consult a brief about it, so will probably represent myself - does anyone have any experiecne of this - what to say etc.. I'm quite a confident speaker anyway. Should I still write a covering leter explaining circumstances, and reason for lateness of return of plea??
Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers

I have been here.. first check that the equipment used to nick you was calibrated within the specified time frame. If it hasn't been you could get off.
If it has... use good driving record no previous offences etc in your defence.
If you haven't got this you'll need to try a different approach.
rememeber above all its you they want to bend over and Rodger dry.
So... don't play on you will loose your job etc etc anything that will F**K you up will have them rubbing their hands with glee and readying the vaseline
Get your work to say how losing your licence will affect them and their business.
Granies that need to get to hospital or old people home
others that rely on you etc these are all things that they will have to consider affecting the quality of others lives when banning you.
If thats no good
Find other cases where people have done higher speeds and not got banned this might set the scene for a lower sentence..but this could be dodgy as they might take offence to you telling them what to do
If they didn't like being god and massaging their own egos they wouldn't be magistrates in the first place..
Good luck son...

Got done 3 1/2 years ago so a bit old now, don't know if things have changed. I was 24 at the time. I checked with AA etc and all said I would almost definately get a 2 - 3 week ban.
I represented myself, turned up looking smart (unlike everyone else, its amazing that people going to court make so little effort).
I was asked if I had any comment and said:
'I knew I was speeding, but did not realise by how much.'
'I do about 25,000 miles a year and do need my car for my job, however, I was speeding and deserve to be punished accordingly'
I got six points and £230 fine.
**** Should have put down average speed of 104 *****
