Safespeed - give the man a medal!
Discussion
I know this is preaching to the converted, but what the hell. Spent most of the evening really digging around the Safespeed site, and all I can say is that Paul Smith deserves highest praise. Scientific analysis, open invitation for peer review, logical arguments backed up by solid data (referenced, unlike so much of the pro camera lobby arguments), totally reasonable requests to the people charged with our road safety that, frankly, make them look like a bunch of blinkered fools. All the stuffy "nothing further to add" replies, when allied to the excellent analysis work, just serve to dig an even deeper hole for these people. It's excellent news that the media (yes, even the tabloids) are finally picking up on the message, and that people like Paul exist to supply well thought out, constructive arguments to counter the hysterical knee jerk "Think of the Children" brigade.
"Our" view may still be a small voice amongst the likes of T2000, BRAKE and their ilk, but eventually, surely, sound analysis and reasoned argument MUST win out. It may take a while, and it might get worse before it gets better, but these people are digging their own graves.

Some of the statistical analysis on SafeSpeed's site is dubious to say the least. However, he/they (?) are providing all the information that the conclusions are drawn from, in marked contrast to the 'Safety Camera Partnerships' who are also using the stats. to proffer only one standpoint.

I'm not a statistician so I couldn't comment on any of the analysis but if they are dubious in anyway I would urge you to get in touch with Paul (Paul Smith) asap so he correct it - his site is now a major point of interest with the media so the last thing "the cause" needs is for anything dubious to be highlighted.
Cheers
Paul

The use of stats on the site is simple and transparent.
If you (or anyone else) can find *ANYTHING* wrong, I'll correct it. That's a promise.
You can email me at psmith@safespeed.org.uk

Here we have an ample demonstration of honesty and transparency.
Something "the partnerships", handBRAKE and SSi etc could learn a lot from but dont cos of their covert agendas and ulterior motives.
Good on ya paul!

Excellent.
When was the last time your government said anything as plain & straight forward as that !
Independent of who's correct, I just have to applaud his whole approach.
Send the man some money to keep him on their backs.
