SCamera False Alarm?
Discussion
This evening while driving home, I drove past the same scamera that I always drive past. This time, it flashed! I was gobsmacked, as there is no way I was doing more than the limit.
It's in a 40 limit, and as it's a downhill section, I usually keep my eye on my speed. I passed the camera doing just under 40 as indicated on the speedo, so less in reality.
A car travelling in the opposite direction appeared to be going quite fast, but I could not comment on how fast.
So, a couple of questions:
If he was over the limit, it is possible for him to set the scamera off?
If the camera had film in it, will a person verify my speed with the marks on the road? (and hence not proceed)?
I was the only person in the car..... if whatever happens next happens (never had this happen before).... is there any way I can proove I was not speeding?
Am I panicing over nothing!?
Any comments gratefully received....
Thanks in advance,
Karl

I saw the van from a distance and checked my speed, I was in a line of traffic and was doing no more than 25mph and I got flashed.

It's happened to me once before - never heard anything. Also I have set off a camera on the opposite side of the road loads of times - again never heard anything. In fact I like to do it on purpose now
NOT starting a rumour here, but it has happened in Switzerland...they set a camera say for 100kph, the flash unit is set for 90kph so that all the drivers think that they're being "done"....
All insiduous socilaist lentil-munching sandalista brainwashing and I certainly wouldn't put it past these lying scum called "safety(?) camera partnerships"

What's wrong with that? Ignoring the actual speed here, but isn't it better to flash and warn people that they are over the limit, but allow a leeway so that those just over are merely reminded of their speed, those who are a lot over get caught, but hey there was a fair bit of warning, was there not?

Then they could use the flashing sign saying "you're doing XXmph" couldn't they???
BUT NO they want to terrorise the public into driving like loons, brain out of gear, driving a blandmobil, propagating the earthwarming lie, and voting either green or even worse pink!!!!
You should read "the persuaders" a very good book on propaganda i.e. subversive advertising!!!

Yeah they could, but this seems to achieve a similar thing...
Ignoring the rights and wrongs of where camera units are placed, and the speeds that they are set to, it seems fair that there is a margin of error allowed where you get a warning, but if the speed is excessively over the limit, you get a flash.
Obviously nothing is a substitute for a BIB, but my council tax is high enough thanks.
The other side that no-one ever mentions on this forum is that there are a lot of crap drivers out there who are not safe to be driving at 60 or 70 let alone above, but the real problem is that there are also plenty of drivers who don't look before pulling out into the fast lane of a motorway, and aren't expecting someone doing 90 to suddenly be alongside... the point is that these drivers endanger those of us who have spent time, effort and money making sure that we are good drivers, and drive with the due care and attention that the responsibility of piloting a 1000kg plus bit of metal!
Fair enough, there ought to be a lot more education, but the amount of pikeys who'd make an enourmous fuss about having to take a retest every 5 years or whatever needs to be done to get these numpties off the road... means in reality it ain't gonna happen
rambling now....
sorry mate just feeling argumentative and opinionated this morning!

Forget all this technology, just put strobe lights at the road sides.

DrBob,
I think there's a general concensus on this board that tw@ts should have to do compulsary retraining or lose their licenses, the same goes for the inbred eejits who need 30 tests to get their license. I think we all agree that 3 tries and no pass should mean no license EVER as they're congenitally incapable of controlling a motor vehicle in todays traffic.....

Yeah I know I just thought it ought to be bought up again....
...especially the 'ain't gonna change' bit - we all know it's wrong, I see plenty of poor driving and I have a relatively short commute...
Anyway, in my defence I wasn't talking about people being flashed at below the limit... my post was more in reply to the switzerland thing, but all other opinion still stands IMO
