Bombshell from another forum, by a long time contributor :

Ministers challenge - midlifecrisis Thu 11 Dec 03 18:45

With reference to the article on this site, challenging the ABD tp prove that speed cameras have only been installed in accident blackspots. As a Traffic Officer, I recently challenged those responsible in my Force about the positioning of newly installed cameras. They have been put in positions where I know for a fact that no accidents have happened. The response was that the 'insert road number here' has had a number of serious accidents in the last three years. I then pointed out that the road is around 40 miles long, but no specific point is a 'blackspot'. Certainly the places where the cameras have been installed are definitely not blackspots. I have also witnessed civilian admin workers altering accident reports, changing the conclusion from actual cause to 'excess speed'. When challenged they replied, "it looks better on the stats". I raised this with a senior officer, but never heard anything again.It is true that there are lies, damned lies and statistics.P.S. If anybody from the ABD wants to contatct me through this site, I'll tell them where the cameras are.

Where did you get this from? Would be VERY interesting if the source could be verified!

Here (don't get involved, it's a motoring forum but there's a fair bit of anti-motoring matter and the moderators are tiresome)

You may be interested in this from Idris Francis. Durham are not the only ones not joining the scam.

Yes, I saw that, but the plot thickens. Here's my reply to Idris:

=======================
The DfT say North Yorkshire "joined 2003". Interesting!

www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_rdsafety/documents/page/dft_rdsafety_507640.pdf

I've been maintaining a list of counties at

www.safespeed.org.uk/hypothecation.html

The following are NOT in the scheme:

Durham
Merseyside
Surrey
Central Scotland Police
Northern Constabulary
=================================

I have heard this morning that Surrey are supposed to be in the scam from April 2004

So where'd the Honest John thread go?

Actually, scrap that, I used to read and post there, so knowing the mods, it's pretty obvious where it is. :roll:

Moved to the Speed Camera thread by the mods. I do hope the longstanding Bib member that posted it hasn't put himself on the line.
