Considering the (bad?!?) press PH has had in todays TIMES, maybe Ted would like to consider hosting a public debate with an invitation to BRAKE, Mary Williams or a spokesperson to attend and provide their viewpoint.

This debate could be a fixed period, say 1 or 2 hours, with a moderator/Ted in residence to ensure relevant and appropriate debate is made.

This could give both BRAKE and its supporters an opportunity to hear what typical PHers have to say on camera's and speed policy, and for BRAKE to give PHers their policy and viewpoint on their activities and goals.

I know that however unbiased and open i try to be, the fact I have an opinion supporting a particular view will create bias in me. Thus maybe BRAKE could provide a viewpoint and answer some of my questions.

Equally, maybe BRAKE could learn a thing or two from PHers.

Nice idea, but I reckon in practice it sounds like a recipe for a big barney followed by a padlock.

And I guess Brake would probably run scared - they don't respond to anti-brake emails afterall...

Besides they only like to cast slurs and call the police (falsly) while making unsubstantiated allegations.
What could they possibly have to say of interest?

TED,

How about we nominate some speakers from PH and only they can contribute to the thread along with representatives from BRAKE. Let the rest of us view the forum but not contribute.
We can talk about it amongst ourselves via a different thread.

Don and DeltaF get my vote.
As does Derestrictor

Of course we will have to select from volunteers. Some people may not be able to make the time due to other commitments.

BRAKE are not interested in discussing anything with anybody. Their only interest is in imposing their will on the world at large.

Funny you should say that because I was going to draw an analogy between them and Muslim fundamentalists...

Blimey! How'd I earn your confidence....I'm sure there are many more eloquent and better informed than I am...

I guess I do have outspoken views on Camera enforcement whilst, at the same time, a keen (and active) interest in road safety from the perspective of the driver.

I'd have to keep the old temper in check, mind. Some of the blinkered thinking does drive me potty...

Thats why I nominated you. I think you are one of the best mass debaters here.
(pun not intended but I just simply had to put it in!)

Seriously I think you "debate" very well without taking a personal level and looking at the picture as a whole and then make good critisisms and hold a good strong arguement.

Where as some of us (including me) run out of steam early on and resort to abuse.
(I usually delete my abusive threads seconds after posting them though).

A bit like the British (1400-1900), Christianity (0-1900), and US foreign policy (1948-present) then - Streaky

A good idea but, as has been pointed out, BRAKE would turn down the offer. I have yet to come across an anti-speed organisation that will listen to a reasoned argument, that shows them to be flawed in their arguments. (I nearly put 'fatally flawed' just then ).

Ladies and gentlemen, one of the all time great posts on PH.

An impression of a chicken. In silly season too.

Excellent idea, but you need to be careful to guard against the emotive argument always trotted out "...what do you say to the mother who has just lost a child etc etc..." and the biased "referee" - so that probably rules out certain BBC and ITV journalists.

It would be nice if they contributed to a reasoned debate on PH now and then, instead of hiding behind other fronts and using implicatory smear tactics as they are now.
