the letter from northumbria police that landed on my doormat today said:
Dear Sir, It has been brought to my attention that you have received notification of a speeding offence which alledgedly occurred on 9th october 2003 at Dukesway, Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead.

We have a rigorous system in place to ensure that all offences are processed correctly, unfortunately on this occasion an error was made in recording the date of the offence and it was not immediately obvious the actual offence occurred the previous day (8th october)

Moves were made to rectify the situation as soon as this was identified, and under the circumstances it was felt that no further action should be taken in relation to this matter

Please ignore all correspondence you have received and do not forward any payment or your driving licence

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused

Many thanks for your assistance in this matter.

Merry christmas one and all!!! You don't get second chances like this again!!!

(edited cos I can't type due to ludicrous happiness!)

Was this a wind-up Dave?

Camera/FPT has a dead line of 28 days to settle the Conditional Offer after which if still outstading then they chase with Court action by summons.

You imply you didn't pay and drop Licence off at Mags Clerks for an away win????

Please set my mind at rest or did you notice the wrong date and were playing it cool?.

Some people are born lucky..

Why not write back to them asking for 60 quid and 3 points back in compensation for all the worry you've had.

Actually the next question is how many people who were nipped in error just took it on the chin?

Nah it wasn't a wind-up...

I got the NIP, signed it, sent it back, got the conditional offer - I left that, got the letter through the door which I thought was gonna be a reminder or summons or something - and it wasn't - it was the one above!!!

The first set of points I had, overran the 28 days conditional offer, so I was caking myself over that - thinking I have got rid of one set, but I might just end up with 6 if it goes to court - so I took that offer to the fines department, it was still in the system so she handwrote the SP30 on my licence, took the £60 and that was it. I have a reciept to say this has been paid incase of any further action and I asked the lass behind the counter if this could happen - she didn't think so, so as far as I'm concerned I'll leave it, I don't want to push my luck!

To be honest, I still can't believe how lucky I am with that letter - 6 points and the associate £120 to pay would have crippled me this year... Lucky stars are being thanked as we speak!!!
