former officer, who doesn't wish to be named,

Well his pension is a separate contract. I would certainly like to see all daft police chases stopped. It is very simple to do, just change the system to make it impossible to drive the car without a valid licence, insurance and MOT. End of problem, anyone then found speeding would be doing it for recreational purposes, which of course is fine

Two N.Wales police officers have told me they are allowed to break a limit by up to 20 mph but above that they must call in a tactical pursuit vehicle. Assuming there is one close at hand, of course.

Imagine pursuing a perp whilst at the same time having to watch your speedo!!

The local beat cops, " Community Beat Managers", are given little diesel vans to trundle around in. One told me he has no chance at all of catching up with the local joy-riders and other bad lads.

Seems like a good time to be a crook in today's UK.
