Why Bother with all the parafinalia to stop you getting caught speeding??
Theres coubtless ££££ you can spend on detectors jammars etc etc.

Surely its cheaper to you your mince pies, and if you do get caught pay the 60 squid take 3 points. you could do that 3 times at least. Then after the third time drive like a nun.

The only exception I can See are people who drive for a living, where you can lose your license in a day.

More points = higher insurance

Some people prefer to give money to radar manufacturers than the govt's coffers

Oh, and sometimes you may be travelling at a speed which warrants more than a £60 fine!

Quite a few of us here drive for a living or for our businesses hence £60 is bugger all, but if your business/income/employess get hit then a few hundred quid is nothing.

I have £250 Laser Jammer on my daily driver & a radar detector (but not much cop these days). Oh & some slightly less reflective no plates than standard.

A worthile investment when I'm often passing 4 or 5 laser units in a single day!.

My suspicion is that the vast majority of posters here wouldn't be against speed cameras if there was evidence that they actually work!

However there is no evidence that they do work. Not only that but it is suspected that in many cases the speed cameras are merely there to generate cash.

For example why reduce speed limits on roads without an accident record and then instal cameras to enforce that limit?

Most people here would prefer to be stopped by a traffic officer, given a lecture, have there chance to plead their case, and if they still drove off with a fine and points are likely to be a lot less annoyed than if they were cameraed. More importantly they are probably more likely to watch their speed in future as, if nothing else, being stopped is very time consuming!

When doing tens of thousands of miles a year all over the country you need to take every care you can to ensure you don't collect points hence the battery of GPS units, Radar Detectors, and jammers owned by people on this site.

The simple fact is that whether publically admitted or not many companies rely on their drivers to speed to get around the country, and maintain productivity. Lets assume you do 30,000 miles a year. At an average speed of 40 then that will take 750 hours, increase that average speed to 45mph and the journey time is now 666.6 hours and a saving of just over 83 hours, nearly 3 1/2 days!

That time saving is remarkably important for drivers doing high mileages!

use my eyes to see what? every dodgy looking van in every layby?
under dusguise as a gas van? you cant spot them, and I dont see why my two occurences of 71mph on a 60mph dual carriageway is dangerous. I havent had and accident for 20 years, but in two years I have been "accusded" and fined for risking my OWN life.

The whole concept of cameras is to slow you in dangerous areas. ie to save your own life. accept the joke is, the first I know about being in a dangerous road situation is 2 weeks later by post. A bit late?
