It made a nice change to have a sensible discussion without any lentil whingers. the article was I beilieve prompted by the Tory proposal for monetary penalties rather than points for minor speeding infringments.
Seems sensible to me!!!!
Why? scameras are still a cynical method of making money from an 'accident blackspot'
Does this mean the govt recognise that so many people are losing their licences that it may have a detrimental effect on their income?

Totally agree, it is no good just putting revenue camera's everywhere, cos the scrotes simply won't pay the fines anyway, and it will still be us law abiding folk who get hit. Also it will mean that only the rich will be able to drive..

I think it'll be a vote winner for Tories, the first policy that I've seen for years from any of the parties that's actually worth voting for. Especially if they back it up with request for better training, more traffic police etc

I said as much a week ago.
There is. Just this week Nigel Humphries has been busy working on behalf of the ABD putting the motorists point of view via the BBC . Are you a member? Members receive a media-log through the ABD e-mail group and I can assure you that the ABD's position as the organisation the media turn to for comment in the first instance has never been better.
Now more than ever the ABD is having an effect!

Maybe I just listen to the wrong shows, but for me it's breakfast and tea-time only. I've never heard them on the breakfast and only once on the later show (where the discussion moved to talking about the 85th percentile, which seemde to go a little over the presenter's head).
It's not an implied criticism of the ABD, though. I always put it down to the editorial policy of the individual editors or station or even corporation preferring to favour the viewpoint taken by T2K, BRAKE etc.
I'm not a member (yet). Maybe it's a better use of my tvrcc subs...
There was a case a couple of years back when a local radio station invited an ABD spokesman to debate with a horseriders representative about an accident when a car had hit a horse on a country lane.
"What do you intend to say on the program?" asked the radio station.
"That horseriders have a duty to make themselves visible, and drivers have the duty to take the same care as is a child was on the pavement." The ABD chap
replied.
"We don't want you to say that, we want you to say that roads are for cars and horseriders shouldn't be there in the first place."
"Tough."
Invitation withdrawn.
