Just posting this for info really.....
My cousin got a NIP for 66 in a 50 on the A2 back in June (offence timed at 11pm). My cousin and her boyfriend were together in the area on the day (at Bluewater) but left at 5pm (twas a Sunday!) and drove straight home.
My cousin returned the NIP with a letter stating that her boyfriend was driving that day but asking for the photo, having seen it I can confirm
a: It is the same model car
b: Same number plate as theirs
c: It is night time, so the time looks correct
You can't see the driver or even tell the colour of the car as it's a B&W pic.
Since then there have been various letters back and forth but now my cousins boyfriend received a summons yesterday for failing to provide details.
I guess he's pretty screwed as he has no evidence (apart from my cousin's word) to say he wasn't there. The summons is badly completed, ie mis-addressed, no post code and the witness is not named.
I'll keep you posted on his progress (he may even post on here).

I guess that if you are going to 'clone' a car it makes sense to pick the same model and ideally the same (or similar) colour.
I guess too (never having been there, but having read about it, that somewhere like Bluewater - with a massive carpark largely full - is an ideal place to record numberplates for cloning.
Of course, it's impossible to get a cloned plate - as our governemt has legislated that you have to prove your entitlement to a numberplate when you order it.
But of course, the scrotes don't know that ...

About 6 years ago, one of the guys at work got a call from the Police asking if he could arrange to have his car removed from a ditch outside Whitby. He looked outside, found his car was where he left it and told them there was some mistake. They checked, the car definitely was the right model, colour and registration. We suggested he go and get it and strip it for spares but he wasn't interested! AFAICR the Police towed it and it was never mentioned again. This was an Alfa 164 (big saloon jobbie) - hardly a common car.
Cloned cars are very common. As a BiB, I've dealt with many. I remember knocking the door of an OAP to ask him the whearabouts of his Ford Sierra. It was all present and correct in his garage, 10 years old, 20K on the clock, factory fresh! Definately not used in a ram raid in the city the previous day! But someone had spotted his car, had the plates made up etc.... Lets face it, if I were a local scrote, what better than to have false plates belonging to a clearly law abiding motor?
I had this about 6 months ago... 8am phone goes, its plod asking me where the wifeys disco is....
erm outside i reply, you sure they ask, ( quick look) yep out side...
erm so its not in a laybye on the A449 with a front wheel missing.
Nope Oh.
Get a mate who works 2 mins away to have a look in said layby and yep there is a blue v8 disco same reg with a wheel missing. darker colour and the pre facelift model though.... never heard anything either..
Its a pity i hadnt spotted it as it would have been in doms workshop and stripped in about 5 hours

My Brother's company car got cloned, ended up with 5 NIP's and a parking ticket for 200 miles away. first one was while he was on holiday, then later ones while he was working in Northern Ireland. Plod's response was "Cars dont get cloned. Tell us who was driving or end up in court on a S172"
They finally nicked the scrote, in a stolen car, after the reg on my brothers car was changed, but plod didn't even apologise for all the stress caused.

Think My car must have been cloned as in the summer got a Parking fine from Islington Council, never even taken the car to Islington, Live in Bath. They had my car as a blue Clio when it's a grey 206. Not sure how I would have got out of it if they had choosen the same model and colour. Of course the traffic warden could have just miss typed the number plate and come up with my car. Anyway still had to pay for the first class stamp, and envelope
Plus I never got compensated for my time

.... However I did get a number plate delivered off the net in the traditional aluminium style for my 1980's Landy, no ID, no reference etc.
Needless to say, he didn't add a sticker stating where they had been made.
