I was recently stopped by a police mobile unit in Devon for doing 90.6mph on an unrestricted dual carraigway. In fairness he should have had me but no he let me on my way. After asking as to whether I was in a hurry I replied that I wasn't but wished to make progress while the trafic was light. I apologised for my lack of observation in allowing him to follow me for long enough to get a VASCAR readout. After he was satisfied that I was just an ordinary bloke on the way to work and not a nasty crim I was allowed on my way with a warning about taking it easy and a reminder about all round observation.

Top bloke. A few mile on I found him stopping another vehicle and hope that they too found the supportive educational side of traffic reinforcement.

The police do a bloody good job despite bureaucratic overheads ruining their day. If you are stopped be polite and don't bullshit. They want to find people ready to learn. Not smart assed motormouths.

Good one!

Lucky the BiB hadn't read the article in The Spectator earlier in the week, he could have mistaken you a mugger/murder/tax dodger
