Lancashire road safety partnership and the Police have got it wrong, lets hope some sense about cameras may prevail.

Lancashire, Essex, Northants, Hertfordshire....
All have increased cameras, all have seen significant increases in fatalities, but there's no connection, obviously
How come that when fatalities increase despite increases in cameras it's labelled "a blip", yet when fatalities decrease it's hailed as "proof that speed cameras work"? Let's have some consistency here please - if a reduction in fatalities is a success for the cameras, then an increase HAS to be a failure. Not a blip, not "unfortunate", "mystifying" or "puzzling". A FAILURE.

North Wales Arrive Alive claims credit for any reduction in casualites ( real or imaginary ) when the figures reduce - if they really do - but when the casualties rise, such as the increase in biker deaths of 157% last year, they say, "We can't be everywhere" !!
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before but i'm convinced that KSI's are rising where more cameras have been installed and agreed it won't be where the cameras are installed. It's because we over compensate through frustration and drive faster in the camera free sections.
Humans as a species, which make up the majority of the drivers, don't like being told, rightly or wrongly, that they are incapable of judging the prevailing road conditions and that they have to have their speed dictated to them by some unseen/unacountable quango, when the driver knows full well that the prevailing road conditions will support a higher, yet still safe speed on any particular stretch of road. But they are being forced to drive along at a snails pace because of the revenue scameras placed on these stretches of road.
It would serve no purpose if the cameras were placed where the 85% rule dictated the average speed to be 40mph, no they place them where the road opens up and the hazzards are gone and they place the 40mph camera to catch the 85% rule that dictates that they will naturally be traveling at 50mph.
On any given day, this normally law abiding citizen has probably been stuck in a traffic jam through town for what feels like an eternity and for whatever time it takes for any given individual to start losing their temper, their blood presure and stress levels are just about topped out. Now if anyone gets in their way for no good reason, slowing their progress further then this is a road rage incident in the making. But all is well and it starts to subside once they're on the open road again and they feel they are able to make progress once more.
Then what happens, on the safest bit of road on their journey home they are again accused by these cameras that they are incapable of driving within the limits of the prevailing conditions and again they feel their stress levels starting to rise once more.
This is when i believe that the increase in road accidents occurs because the first chance they get to travel freely without being monitored by big brother, they start to drive much faster than they would do normally to get it out of their system, sort of like "DON'T TELL ME IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE ABOVE 40mph, I'VE BEEN DRIVING THIS ROAD FOR X YEARS AND IT'S PERFECTLY SAFE TO DRIVE IT AT 50+mph - SO SOD YOU" and this normally mild mannered citizen starts to take risks they normally wouldn't dream of taking. Overtaking and just speeding up the first chance they get once out of site of the camera, i'm not saying i agree with that attitude but i feel it's a pretty normal human reaction after being held captive for so long, they just want to break out and run free.

Heyou,
Well said!
The traffic around my area is ussually pretty bad so it is stop and go all the way to the local Dual Carriageway (A41). When i get to the A41 I only use a little 1/2 a mile long perfectly straight section of it, which is between a round about and a set of lights. I used to cruise down it at 50 quite happily until they put a 40mph gatso there so now i quickly get up to 60, slow down to forty and then get up to 60 again in time to slow down for the roundabout..I do this out of principle and I see a lot of other folks stamping on the gas as well, even though they have to slow down immediately
They are making us behave like idiots...

Agreed, almost as if they knew all along isn't it?
