Whilst driving to Uni this morning on the Southbound A12 I saw a van with a yellow back and flashing amber lights on, I suspected it might be a scamera van and it was. The thing was, it was parked with two wheels on the carriageway, clearly causing passing vehicles to take evasive action.

Some vehicles who knew it was a scamera van breaked harshly and others who thought it was a recovery vehicle at first swerved into the nearside lane, as the two operators were milling about near it. As far as I could see there was no scamera set up yet.

I travel every day on that road and am probably the fastest person on there at 80mph, the place the scamera van was positioned wasn't near any junctions, houses, serious bends or anything and is partially obscured from view by traffic in the nearside lane.

I would have stopped and parked off the carriageway, obscuring their view but I didn't have time

My second question, is about number plates, as seeing a new car, with no plates and only trade plates on the dashboard made me wonder whether you could legally have your plates there, making it difficult for scameras to read it?

I would have been tempted to use hands free and call the police to advice them of a hazard on the road, possibly broken down!
