Something I just don't 'get' with cop chases...

As seen in this video, crazy trucker guy on a bit of a jolly with his truck, (obviously), so why do the cops feel that having 20 cars following behind is going to do anything? It's all a bit 'blues brothers', if you know what I mean? Surely they would be better off getting ahead, and closing off intersections, etc, rather than all following behind like lemmings? What exactly is the tactic here?

28 years for joyriding in a truck and not hurting anyone . Having said that, he has just been told he is terminally ill so he probably isn't too worried about the sentence..

I could understand that many cop cars behind if they did a job sheilding exits ahead and sheilding the wood that has fallen off the truck, but they do just seem to be following mob handed, which does look a little daft. Is it a case of needing that many officers incase of accidents with other drivers?

as above, they're American, UK policy is normally to have no more than 2 cars pursuing + a dog handler, unless they're going to box it, which will need more vehicles

Meh... It still doesn't explain the utter waste of manpower, and the utter Keystone cops appearence it gives them. I'm still none the wiser as to what they gain from it.

Perhaps the cops in both the UK and USA do the same thing, i.e. every available car follows the bad guy, but in the UK there are not so many cars available.

The end of the video is just ridiculous with them all pulling up in a long line, if I was a burglar I'd use this oppourtunity as clearly all of the Police are in one place.

The American judiciary don't mince around with poncy sentences like the UK lot do.

28 years for joyriding would probably stop any of his mates from thinking it was a good idea, as does multiple life sentences without parole and served concurrently for shooting at police officer or even just knocking one over...

We need more of that kind of sentencing tbh.
