Having got my licence back yesterday I have been TRYING to drive under the speed limits to ensure I don't go back to court!

Its actually quite hard to stick to the exact limit even my Astra wants to do 40 in a 30 (wether in 3rd or 4th gear) so I have decided to stick to 5mph or 10% under and then if it does creep up a little I won't be breaking the law.

Is there a threshold for driving too slow on the roads? Only reason I ask is that I have seen a few coffee bean shakers in my rear view mirror becuase I was doing less than 30mph in a 30 limit. I don't want to get in trouble for that as well!!!!

A minimum speed limit is a white number in a blue circular sign, if there isn't one of these there isn't a minimum speed limit.

I thought there was a minimum speed limit automatically on motorways, but I can't find it in the highway code. If not, there should be

Only if there's a minimum speed limit in force:

www.highwaycode.gov.uk/sign073.shtml

If the car wants to go faster than 30 in 3rd and 4th, try 2nd. There's an added advantage of a higher gear not stated in Julian's article and that's that you can audibly hear the difference in revs as you creep up in speed.

If you drive along to slowly under the limit and traffic builds up behind you you may end up being nicked for obstruction or some such thing, keep an eye on that speedo!

Careful, young man.

You're exposing yourself to the risk of a great big sloppy kiss from Mary..........

Your very sensible approach to the safety of your new licence I'm sure will far outweigh the dangers posed by those who wish to make good progress & hence would be forced to overtake, wether they are capable of this or not is not the issue, as you are not speeding so MUST be driving safely.

Cynical rant over

Invest in a Blinder & a GPS detector or leave the country along with the rest of us........

2nd gear is too loud, the mummys look at me funny

I am beginning to wonder if slow speed can also be a danger on the roads.

Before my ban I liked to make "good" progress and that meant concentrating 110% whilst being very observant.

Now I am obeying the speed limits I find my mind wanders off the task in hand, distractions are common place. The trees and scenry slowley drifting by is, to be honest, boring as hell.

Its natural for the mind to create tasks for itself when nothing is going on and its bored, could this be happening to me whilst I am driving? Am not looking forward to anything too exciting happening, I might wakeup.

Plus side is my brakes won't wear out, I hardly used them just now, and this set of tyres will last an eternity

I keep thinking I this is really pedantic, but what would a magistrate say if I was in court again for speeding? They'd rip up my licence for good?!?!

Just drive on the limit.
The speedo on the dash will be overreading anyway by about 3mph @3o and about 6mph @70 on most cars.

AFAIK you are probably more likely to get pulled for driving under the limit by 5mph than you are over. Reasoning being is most drunks I have seen seem to think they will be OK doing it , it would be intersting to get a BiBs view on it.
