One of the first fixed Gatsos was to go up in Shrewsbury yesterday adjacent to some houses.

The first one of the home owners knew about this was when he saw it lying on the ground outside his house ready to be erected. He immediately complained to the "Safety" Scamera Club who hurriedly found a new location for it in another street. The bloke reckoned the flashing would cause him and his wife sleepless nights

Isn't it interesting how this particular resident could see no value whatsover in having a scamera right outside his house and yet the scamera club considered it a prime location.

I would love one outside my house. Course they would have to come round every day to put it back again.

yeah - 100% legit and it's still there - altough it is rarely ever working.

Admittedly there is a small service road between my garden and the camera.

Humm. Something does not seem to be quite right here. Neither the contractors, nor the "Scamera partnership", nor the Highways authority could have just decided to put it somewhere else and acted on that arbitrary decision there and then. At the very least (assuming they use something akin to "Emergency Powers" to erect such devices) here would have been work orders (to cancel and to raise). What are the grounds for this report please?

PS - I liked the report that the erectors of the TETRA masts in W Sussex (using "Emergency Powers" to bypass planning processes and erecting the masts in the wee small hours of the morning) have been told by a court to remove them post haste (pun intended) - S

Herer's the full text, I found it in their news archive. It was on the front page on Wednesday.

New site for first camera

The location of one of Shrewsbury's first fixed speed cameras was moved at the last minute after residents complained that its bright white double flash would keep them awake.

Judy and Steve Mainwairing, of Longden Road, said the first they knew about the installation of the camera was when they saw Gatso on the pavement outside their home.

After contacting the Safety Camera Partnership, the camera has been moved to Vane Road and is set to be installed next week.

Mrs Mainwairing said it would have caused "great distress" as it would have been directly outside their front bedroom windows - meaning "sleepless nights for everyone".

Roger Drummond, Shropshire County Council's principal engineer for traffic management, said: "We were able to find an alternative siting."

Kind of shows that they are sticking to the rules about siting them then....NOT. Residents don't want it here, OK we will stick it in another road then!
