Anyone here been affected by him of other suspected fraudsters?

No, but I read the article and thought that 4 1/2 years was a LOT of time for that. (This isn't a bad thing - scum like this deserve a good hard punishment, although that is pretty much exactly NOT what he will be getting. 12 Months in an open jail, more like. With playstation and a pool table and free board and lodgings.)
I also noticed that he was banned from driving for LESS time than his sentence. I guess he won't be using any of the cars set aside for inmates use at the open prison then ...
Odds of the insurance companies and the insured who were scammed being recompensed? Nill, nada, zip.
Did I say scum? I certainly meant it.

Eh? You what? If you did an armed robbery and got away with £1.7 million (or whatever it was) you'd get a lot more than that. Assuming you didn't shoot anyone the fallout would also have been a lot less than what he did. I'd have thought 10 yrs would have been about right.Edited by trickywoo on Wednesday 21st October 14:32

Can anyone explain to me how this works? Was he deliberately slammig on the brakes so he was hit from behind then claiming? Surely the insurance company wouls say enough after 4-5 crashes? Surely he couldnt just keep doing it, it said on the day he was caught he had done 2 crashes!
He was -for a cut - driving other peoples cars and assuming their identity then causing the collision. After insurance details were exchanged it all went through the insurers and car owners -the insurers and victim none the wiser. The only reason this was picked up on was because (unbeknown to him) photos were taken from nearby offices of many of the accidents with him a constant in each one of them.Edited by maddog993 on Wednesday 21st October 14:41

In which case, I hope that each and every person who sought Mr Patel's services is also sought out and similarly punished, as it sounds like they are equally guilty. If he was 'assuming the identity' of his 'clients', it's reasonable to assume that the clients all appeared similar.

Whether he was intending to cause collisions or not I’m struggling to see the people that ran into the back of him as victims. Surely if they’re dim/unobservant enough to run into the back of him it was probably going to happen sooner or later anyway?
At roundabouts, he would be in front of them, but instead og going forwards, he would go into reverse. the eprson behind didnt stand a chance, and in the eyes of the insurance it would be 100% their fault. From what I have heard from the 'trade', these guys stamp on the brakes, or sometimes even reverse into the car behind.
In the shock and confusion, and with the 'anger' the person at the back is confronted with, how the accident actually happened get confused, and of course, the 'law' is on his side. Well done to the people who reported him!
I also believe 'spotters' are used to identify likely victims, and the situation gets set up before the roundabout.
Odious people, should be used as speed bumps!
What is the likelyhood of him ever getting insurance?
And the money being recovered as proceeds of crime?

I could be very racially biased and say something about...
It's been reproted many times, and mentioned on here several as well. A regular 'industry' in the northern parts, and I believe there were questions asked about it in the House of Commons by the Blackburn MP. Oldsoak, I am sure that many are on your wavelength.
