onlne order - they sent wrong item - rights?

Ordered a brodit phone holder online, they sent one for a differnt car manufacturer... the invoice stated the correct one so not my orderingh fault.Thus got in touch and asked them to collect this and send the correct one.
They have replied saying they will send a returns enveloper and stated :
"If you could take this to your local post office; ensure you get a receipt/proof of postage; retain this.
If you could enclose a cover note with your order number; name, address; contact number as well as an explanation as to the reason you are returning it. As long as this information is enclosed, we can then process your request as soon as possible."
I have no objection to posting it off, but don't see why I should have to a) create my own cover note especially with anything more than the their case reference, and b) queue for 30 mins getting proof of postage
as their screw up and not even a year change of model which would be an understandable error but wrong manufacturer!
So can I just say no, come and collect or I will post normally in their returns envelope?

sounds reasonable to me. They won't really care whether you get proof of posting or not - that's for your benefit in case the postie loses it.
The inconvenience of going to the post office is surely just the downside of getting somethings cheaper off the internet. Oh, and if you brought something from a shop 30 minutes away from you, and found they'd put the wrong coloured item in the box when you got home, would you expect the nice man from the shop to drive the 30 minutes to your house, or would you spend an hour driving to and from the shop, plus to queue to speak to someone there.

I had this with a phone holder from ebay. I ordered dash mount. They sent window mount. When I complained they wanted me to return it to China at my own expense. The item cost 50p + £5 postage or something. Turned out they didn't have the right item in stock.
