Little rant about tesco's challenge 25

No marks being given today for swearing as in not in such a bad mood but a quick question to the masses.
Now say if i were to buy alcohol and the woman and the checkout challenged me , me being over 18 not a problem but the person challenging is in fact under 18. Now after she did this is said "i'm not sure how you check this so ill just get someone quickly". Now two things sprung to mind at this point
A)Can this person actually challenge anyone for ID if they dont even know what theyre looking at
B)Can this person actually challenge someone if they are not properlly trained?

Showing them ID is showing them plenty of private info, driving licenses have addresses on them for one.By LAW, anyone handling private information has to be sufficiently trained and has to operate within the DPA ... somehow I doubt when the person doesn't know what to do that they have been trained as to how to handle the fact that the ID they see has people's addresses on them.

How about it? For all the Checktard knows you could be...Anyway, in Nanny State Britain, we're supposed to be setting a good example to our offspring... Kiddie witnessing Mummy buying cheap plonk at Tesco's is hardly the way forward in that respect. They're all gonna grow up to believe that Tescos is the 'in place' to buy plonk, when we all know we should be doing our plonk buying at M&S or Waitrose...Think of the children!

I mean, telling somebody they can't buy wine because they have a child with them? Who the hell do they think they are? The labour government?

It's open to such a broad spectrum of interpretation as to be all but useless at achieving what it was set out to do...prevent under age people getting hold of or buying alcohol.23 year old is paying and has ID. Any initiative like this needs to be tempered with a little common sense...but not many people posses that these days nor do they have the ability to apply it to the situation they may be asked to adjudicate upon.
Once upon a time a store manager would be a kindly old chap who had worked his way through the ranks and grown to know the ins and outs of the trade and how to deal with customers...I defy anyone to find a supermarket store manager who is by comparison not still 'wet behind the ears'...if you get my drift?
