A quick question for the keen legal minds of PH.

The OH and her ex have fallen out over an issue to do with their son (soon to officially become my stepson). She's since tried to pour oil on troubled waters but he's not interested and is now demanding they do everything formally, i.e. communicate in writing. As he's acted on his own behalf in custody hearings in the past and now that the OH doesn't have a solicitor he's claiming that she's legally bound to reply to his letters. I think what he's saying is BS, am I right ?

Obviously the OH and I would prefer this to be resolved amicably but the ex seems intent on playing Perry Mason. Hopefully this can be sorted without another visit to court.

She is not obliged to answer anything, as I have found in a similar situation.....If she wont seek/use legal advice to reply to the ex's letters then ultimately he can issue court proceedings, ultimately your OH will have to attend this.
Until she has been served with a notice of proceedings she can ignore to her hearts content. However the ex could use her lack of communication as a very valid reason for concerns over his child......

She's not legally bound to reply. However, if he makes assertions which are untrue then it could be a good idea to reply and refute those assertions.
