Picked car up on Nov 8th, had the dealer put the private plate on (details sent by DVL? to dealer as I was overseas in oct/nov), tax disc not ready, dealer sends tax disc later in the week in the post as the registration docs etc had to go through. Tax disc arrives dated 14th Nov.

Just had the letter from the DVLA asking for £25 / £45 as on the 9th I was the named owner but it wasn't taxed!!

I'm going to try and call tomorrow, but any ideas on this - I'm hoping they can carry the dealers SORN/tax through till then (it expired 31 Oct)

I had the same letter - they wouldnt listen to me, just wanted my £25. I'd save the phone call if i were you. The excuse i got was that once it was through to their 'claims enforcement' department (which it is, if you have that letter) theres nothing they can do.

Let them take you to court. Argue the case in front of the magistrates.

They do what they do because people roll over and accept it. Don't!!!!!!

I had trouble where they believed I hadn't taxed the car. Sent a colour photo of the tax disc - and they shortly gave up.

If you are in the right and all taxes due have been paid...then FIGHT.
