Speed Cams to be cut in London.
Discussion
This is a bit of spin if you ask me. I used to work with an ex-Metpol traffic Officer. I was reliably informed that in central London, around 6, yes, 6, (SIX) cameras actually had film in them at any one time. Of the remaining cameras throughout the rest of London, again only a minority of the cameras have film.
The nature of the work I used to do meant that my team would set off cameras by the score in a given day. Overall, I'd say we only ever heard anything in perhaps 5 to 10% of cases.

End of the road for speed cameras
Up to 140 speed cameras could be removed from London's streets and replaced with signs telling drivers how fast they are travelling.
The London Safety Camera Partnership, including the Metropolitan Police and Transport for London (TfL), is looking at the move amid anger over fines.
Under the plans, police will also have to receive permission from a senior officer if they want to use a mobile speed camera.
It is thought the removal of the cameras could trigger a similar response elsewhere.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir John Stevens says the cameras should be used to focus on preventing accidents at blackspots, not raising money from drivers.
Shadow transport secretary Damian Green has called for a national audit of cameras.
He wants to know which are necessary for road safety and which appear to be used for raising money.
He said: "I'm delighted that the Metropolitan Commissioner has responded so quickly and sensibly to the misuse of speed cameras.
"Conservatives think they should only be used for road safety, not as a silent tax collector for Gordon Brown."
"We recently wrote to all partnerships for assurance that all cameras are where they should be and early indications are that they are."

Is this not an admission that those cameras that are removed were only there in the first place to raise revenue (seeing as they were placed on a stretch of road that had had less then 4 fatal accidents within the last 36 months)? Therefore the denial that they were to raise revenue is false?
I think the scameraships are finally losing the battle!!!
Any bets on how long they have left before we start to see cameras coming down nationwide??
I am excluding Wales from this question as I reckon Dick Bumsucker will end up being burnt on a pyre of useless cameras by the locals anyway!!!!
Note: This post does not condone, nor encourage the burning at the stake of senior police officials, however much of an a
hole they may be. Any similarity between the names in this post and actual people is purely coincidental.

Sorry? Early indications are that all cameras are where they should be? I'm very impressed by the huge pressure that the Tories are applying to this issue then.
