M4 Prosecutions Dropped

Wind had blown down the speed limit signs

The Bristol Evening post reports this week that over 100 prosecutions for speeding have been dropped after it was found that speed limit signs had blown over.

A motorist who'd been flashed by a camera in roadworks complained to the police when he arrived home, pointing out that no temporary limit was visible. Rob Walker had been driving near the M4/M5 interchange when he was flashed. According to the report a police patrol confirmed that the temporary limit signs had been blown over. Despite this Mr Walker was still sent a speeding ticket.

With support from his local paper he successfully got the local camera partnership to withdraw the notice to prosecute and now they've written to 114 other drivers informing them that prosecutions won't be pursued.

The signs were temporary ones at the beginning of roadworks.

Here in The Netherlands those are fixed on a cart, thus to heavy to be blown over or stolen . . .

Looks like the scum have had a change of heart, no doubt due to the publicity.

Could a sign not being fixed securely (in that it was able to be blown over) be a health and safety issue I wonder? Grounds for some sort of complaint?

Claim to fame - the little guy is one of my colleagues and I pointed Ted in the direction of the story. He is my hero and that of 114 other people. He only pursued the stories publication to force the police to let him and more importantly the others off!
