Sneaky speed cameras catch out motorists
Swiss reader Niccolo Pini sent us these pictures demonstrating how inventive the Swiss authorities are being with speed cameras.
Black and yellow bollards are a common site in Switzerland being used to mark laybays or to protect electrical transformers. Now the powers that be have decided to put speed cameras inside replicas!

They use wheelies in Switzerland too! Guy wrote about it in "Autocar" as he got done by one of them!
They also have another guise - beware of Snow White carpentry! Cousin (posted on other forum as "Sad Ol' Anorak" and just gone back to Germany) has photos of this one too! Puts "Hello Boys!" in a completely different slant as this one had the lens hanging out of her big boobies!
(He found one in Luzern area, and the other around German/Austrian border)
He is superb driver (a road safety expert
), but he said it was very disconcerting to drive past this! In fact, he said it was more likely to cause accidents than prevent them! He has written a storming letter of protest about it. In the meantime, it seems, the "Snow White" got more than an apple down her throat!
They have had the "Robo-Motorway worker" for a while as well. Except - they forget the cones!

I can imagine Bliar's crew taking inspiration from this.
Next time you see an oddly-placed postbox, jam a parcel full of cotton wool in the slot!
Or maybe they'll hide them inside Police helmets ...ah, hang on, that'd mean recruiting more traffic police who'd actually see the cars. Nah, never work.

There can be no justification for such disguised devices. I'm surprised the Swiss haven't revolted...
Don, the Swiss are morons they voted to increase fuel tax. Motor racing is banned in Switzerland. We should nuke it for openers. Gotta figure out a way of getting the gold back first though.

Motor racing isn't banned in Switzerland - they certainly stage rallies and drag racing events. Not sure about circuit racing though.

Liebchen!
That is why we like living over 'ere!
Not all of us are "morons" - but then this family is half a cheese short of a full one anyway!
So we are only half twazaks!
Nuke Switzerland? Ah! That explains the compulsory conscription "in case we get attacked!" By the way - the tunnels are mined - just in case! And we are probably required to keep that sub-machine gun in the house in case the EU try to take our gold! But then again - we used to think it was for use against the French as they place penalty points on our licences when we ton it up on the "autoroutes blanches!"
They get their own back on the French and everyone else by hiding the scams! The Swiss, on the other, hand run over more people because they play "spot the wheely" and not "spot the numpty!"
They do have some protest groups on the web, and the "radafalle" site has lots more on the Swiss "mouldy morons" by the Swiss "full cheeses!"

Hi There,
Since I live near the spot where the above picture has been taken I can give some information on the "speed camera".
It is in fact only a traffic counting device which has been used (it is not operating any more at this location) to count traffic on this highly frequented road. The traffic needed to be counted to be able to properly plan an access point to a nearby motorway.
The device does not contain a camera, only a radar system and a PC. It has been disguised for road safety reasons - in order not to distract drivers.
So I'm sorry to spoil a good story, but Swiss authorities do not disguise speed cameras in this way.
There are static speed camaras in and around towns or motorway blackspots - the locations are known and the devices are not disguised. In addition, there are mobile patrols which may catch in the wrong moment, as I know from some firsthand experiences.
Be careful out there.
Hans
P.S. The "Gold" issue would even be a bit more complex to discuss - but like the "speed camara" it would turn out to be quite different if facts and not emotions would be considered.

Not disguised, I don't think so! How about the camera disguised as a swiss cheeze, as the freeway splits to Geneva and Geneva Airport. Next time I pass I will take a photo and post it. Also if you go left at the cheeze there is a cow one just before the centre of Geneva.
It is my experience that the swiss are very sneaky. Also check out the fine for speeding on the Freeway here, if you are caught between 161 to 165 KPH you have to pay 20% of your net earnings and you will get 3 days in a Swiss Jail (like Butlins, without the redcoats).

Now that's what I like about John - not afraid to mince words! don't forget mate, if you're passing by Stansted, drop us an email..?

If you look at the photos, there appears to be a lens or aperture pointing across the road at right angles. Unless the top swivels like a dememnted dalek, it can't take photos of cars speeding past it!
