Just phoned my mum for a chat to be told the the Anti-Terror Police were round banging the door down the other day.

Turns out my Dad, who is a photographer, was up in Yorkshire visiting his Dad the other week. Being a photographer, he takes his camera everywhere and regularly goes out on his own to take photos. Anyway, I'm not sure of the exact town but he was just doing the usual photographer thing, you know, taking photos, with a camera etc.

Anyway, the other night, My mum was in bed and he was watching TV, only to hear people kicking the front door in. He gets up to go and answer only to be confronted by, in my mums words, "four fking huge policemen with their truncheons out" laugh. They invited themselves in, introduced themselves as the "Anti-Terror Police", searched his computer and requested to see all his camera equipment and photos.

Being just a photographer, they didn't stop any terror this time, but it just makes me wonder what this fking country is coming to. The Police told my dad that someone had watched him taking photos and then followed him to his car and taken the reg, then reported him to the police as being suspicious. They then tracked his reg and came to the house.

1. How fking paranoid, sad and pathetic is this person that they feel they must be a vigilante against the terrors of people taking photographs in quaint little Yorkshire towns?

2. Why the fk to the police think that because someone is taking photographs of touristy, quaint little Yorkshire towns, that they must smash peoples doors in to try and find them making bombs in a back room?

This country is fked. Regardless how you look at it, from whatever point of view, we are all fked.

they could of done some surveilance at least, and i'm sure it would of become pretty clear pretty quick that he wasn't a suicide bomber or whatnot.

but i think its good they followed a link up. all be it in the wrong way.

If as described they have no power to do any of the above without a warrant.

I suggest you encourage them to complain if it is exactly as you describe.

I got stopped and questioned for taking photos at the local highland games. Taking pictures of men tossing cabers is definitely a no no. And all because I had two big cream zoom lenses, wasn't like I was hiding behind a bush taking sneaky photos either.

Terrorist my arse.

They kicked in the door as he was seen with a camera? Complain, call in local rag, etc, as that is not right in any way at all.

The other day your parents front door was kicked in by the cops and they didn't phone you to tell you about it?

In my family that would be pretty big news!

I don't think the OP says the door was kicked in.

They didn't literally kick the door in but where apparently frantically banging and shouting.

Get in touch with the Red Tops - could be some useful pre-election anti-Labour fodder!

I am personally not that bothered that they turned up at the house, just that I feel it a little heavy handed over a few photos of some architecture. But at the end of the day, atleast they did their jobs and followed something up.

Followed it up fairly stupidly I'd say.

How long between the report of your dads actions and 'kicking the door in' (figure of speech)?
If it was weeks as you say, either they 'got around to it' which tells you how seriously they thought it was, or they carried out an investigation and thought it warranted putting your mums doors in - so faulty from that point of view too.

No logic here that I can see really.

He was up there last weekend and came round tuesday night. So pretty quick really assuming the person reported him on Sat/Sun.

Did they produce a warrant? If not, then why in gods name did you father let them in? You need to get him educated a bit better on his rights and what the police, can, and cannot do.
Complain, loudly, vocally, involve the papers etc. Drag the f*ckers down.

There wasn't a school (for example) on the architectural picture taking list, was there?

Is your father an Icelandic banker or a Rambler?

1. The economy needs us to spend money in the High Street to help pull us out of recession. So surely buying swanky new digital cameras and using them is a good idea?

2. Wouldn't any wannabe Jihadist just use Google Earth and StreetView?

3. Google StreetView also gives details of unsecured Wi-Fi hotspots? Handy material assistance to any wannabe terrorist web surfer?

4. Flickr? A mate of mine has been approached by a govt. dept about using his photos on Flickr in a govt. report.

5. Webcams? How many webcams are there across the UK that could assist wannabe terrorists?

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/drivers...

Perhaps we should have monthly point cameras at the police days?
