Just goes to show how distorted reporting can get:

Driver ripped out speed camera with tow rope

A drink driver, who ripped a speed camera out of the ground by tying it to his car, was given 240 hours' community service and banned from driving for four years yesterday.

Stefano Barbieri was so angry after being flashed on the A68 near Earlston in the Borders that he lassoed the camera with a tow rope and tied it to his Mercedes. He was caught at the scene by police who told him there was no film in the camera.

Barbieri, 57, was three times over the legal limit when he drove back to his home in Carlisle, Cumbria, after a party in Haddington, East Lothian.

He admitted drink driving and damaging the camera and was put on probation for two years at Selkirk sheriff court. He was also ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.

The court was told that Babieri had lost his job as a lorry driver as a result of the incident.

If you miss the drink driver, then you could easily think that the ban was for attempting to pull the camera out of the ground.

It looks as though the sentencing was:

Drink driving - four year ban, 240 hours community service.

Damaging camera - two years probation, £1,000 compensation.

Streaky

PS - I though a "drink driver" was someone who drove a beer lorry - S

Yup. Its just a shame that the fact he was drunk completely hid the fact that he was doing something worthwhile when he was caught!
