The authority found that more than half of pursuits conducted by the north Wales force ended with a collision, compared to just under 13% in those by its south Wales counterparts.

what does that tell us?

That they aren't used to driving quickly and should raise the speed limits?

The roads are more dangerous? (just being devil's advocate )

The article has more fascinating facts comparing N and S Wales:
- chasing speeds higher
- longer chases
- more arrests made
- higher injury rate (0.37 per chase!!).

Overall, 1% of all fatalities (not KSIs, actual deaths) "involved the police" in 2001 and 2002. And rates are up in 2003. Of course the chasing police have to drive in ways that normal drivers don't, but that's a significant number which could contribute to the "us vs. them" feeling that normal drivers have when faced with yet another NIP for a technical offence.

They need lessons from the pensioner in how to overtake tractors safely?

Ah! So that's why Mr B. lashed out at the pensioner in question - envied him his skilful collision- free driving when overtaking tractors!

But criminals don't brake for scameras ... that's how they become criminals (except in N Wales where everyone travelling at 1mph over the limit is a ciminal ... unless they're taking heroin!) - Streaky

Streaky, IK think you have half the answer, the rest is.... is it the police on heroin causing the crashes?

I think the answer had something to do with the fact that due to budget restraints Police driver training (all over the country) has been cut back. Also because most of the (non Traffic) Plod seem to think that their uniform turns them into the greatest drivers in the world.

It doesn't matter. The act of engaging in the pursuit resulted in deaths and needs investigating to understand whether it was the right decision.

If you fill that it was their own fault then presumbly you don't want to investigate death in custody either?
