Need to renew my shotgun licence and had a look on the form and it doesn't really tell you what the procedure is. So do I have to arrange for the Old bill to come round and check my safe again or just fill in the form, give them 40 notes and my details and my new licence will drop through my letter box?

It varies county by county, but mostly just fill in the form and send it off withteh cheque.

They'll then visit you and hand the license over after a little chat and falling through your rafters whilst checking the cabinet.

Fill in the form and send it back, they will come out and do an inspection and check that you are of sound mind and suitable to hold a licence.

Contact your local firearms office for a renewal form, fill it out and send it back with the appropriate photographs and fee. There's every chance that the firearms officer will want to visit you again just to make sure that nothing has changed since your original application.

Allow plenty of time for all of this before your existing certificate expires.

All as posted really.

Most importantly- and as mentioned- leave plenty of time to renew, expect a visit to ensure cabinet is still as it should be.

Quite straightforward, and it never hurts to have a good relationship with the firearms officer.

It might be worth hiding your Citroen Picasso taxi around the back when they visit. wink
