Hi,

Has anybody on here recently gone through the Medical assesment and can give clues of the procedure?

Cheers

I went through it about 2 years ago, when I re-joined the Police. I don't believe it's changed. You do a confidential medical questionaire. Then a nurse and doctor will do a basic medical, i.e. blood pressure, and the obligatory boxer shorts down and cough (if you're a bloke).

You will also have an eyesight test. Can't be specific on this, different forces have different standards, but basically, if you don't wear glasses and you mince pies are OK you should be fine. If you wear glasses, or have had laser treatment etc... then I suggest you call the relevant recruiting department.

Then there is a hearing test. You sit in a soundproof booth with earphones on, and have to press a button when you hear sounds in each ear. Not too many fail this, but do not do to any pubs/clubs the week before.

And then there is the so-called fitness test. It used to be quite tough (when I were a probationer....bore..... ). Now, a 5 ft, 15 stone coach potatoe could pass it. On one leg. It really is a joke.

Probably not. If you can pass the physical, I doubt it would be a bar to entry.

Reckon that your medical may get harder to pass - after all you are going to get trained to ... ride bikes - up and down steps! without wobbling!

so-OH! Tony Rec!

So Hendon teaches you how to ride a push bike up and down steps too!

That takes muscle, mate! and I don't mean "Harl's!"

Wish I'd joined the BiBs now!

Roller blading, pedal cycling, motor biking, driving fast cars .... BLISS! That ain't workin'!

How about speed skating? (I'm quite good at that! )
