Hi guys,

I am sure this thread has been started numerous times in the past but I cannot seem to get a definative answer on the internet.

I got caught driving through a bus lane and paid the resulting fine. Do I get points also?

As I am still within my two years driving probation this could really hurt my insurance costs.

Post your query in the forms on www.pepipoo.com with as much detail as you can.

Even if it's not endorsable, you may still want to challenge it.

I had a fine for bus lane from a camera, no points. I got pulled by a traffic cop, fine but no points.

I think you should be ok, I wouldn't think you'd get any points.

Most bus lanes are under the civil enforcement rubish that dish out parking fines , doubt there's many councils that enforce penalty points for Driving in a bus lane

After all, you can get a ban even if your offence was simply to stand by a sign warning of a speed trap ahead - Streaky

Definative: Bus Lane Offences do not carry points or discretionary disqualification under its Regs.

Streaky LA do not have the power to disqualify for ANY offence - only an authorised Magistrates Court.

I just called Bromley Council and they do not issue points for parking nor bus lane offences.

The fine was £120, but I paid it within 14 days so it was reduced to £60.

About 6 weeks ago I got a parking ticket from one of those PCSO's - been an expensive couple of months!!!!

I know that, the context of my reply concerned the generality of the "Why not?" remark - Streaky

Crikey, that's steep! I got one in Manchester about 6 weeks ago - 60 quid or 30 quid if paid withing 14 days.

My car does look pretty cool in the photos though cool

You see those signs saying 'Bus Lane' or the ones that detail the times when you can and can't park somewhere? They might give you a clue as to how to avoid fines. wink Happy to help.

Seriously though, I've had a couple of bus lane fines around the hotels at Heathrow. While trying to get into the car park I've nipped down the bus lane for 50 or so yards to avoid the queue of traffic continuing down the road (so I haven't exactly been taking the proverbial as I haven't been trying to gain advantage by using the bus lane and wouldn't have impeded a bus as I was out of the lane and in the car park). No points though, as it's not an endorsable offence, thankfully!

The bus lanes are generating income for local council / authority. You won't get any points and nor would you for any parking ticket.

If you keep avoiding paying fines - then you have trouble (bailiffs, court actions, etc), although many still get away with it like many white van men.

You may wish to check it was an actual bus lane... not a bit of road with some white paint on it wink

Stop driving in bus lanes and parking where you shouldn't then.

I have been fined for bus lane and cycle lane infringments. Neither incurred points. However the BiB who stopped me for the cycle lane incident did advise me that I could appeal but if I did and the decision went against me then it became endorseable.
