.........................from Tayside police Re the Tayside "Toot in Protest" campaign, in todays Press and Journal....

to quote a police spokesman "the promotion of a campaign asking for drivers to sound their horn at these camers sites is not in the public interest and IS INCITING DRIVERS TO BREAK THE LAW. Drivers can be assured that they will be dealt with robustly by the police if such OFFENCES are reported to them."

WTF?????

Seig Heil to you to Baby.

I s'pose, technically, you aren't allowed to sound your horn except to warn other road users of your presence. Jailable offence that one!

Ah, but there are some pedestrians only just visible behind a hedge, apparently not focused on the traffic, but some kind of hairdryer, so you are just tooting so they are aware of your presence, in accordance with the highway code. You wouldn't want them to be caught unaware of your presence, would you?

Especially given it's an accident blackspot, for all you know preserving pedestrians behind hedges is the very reason the camera's there in the first place.

even if it is an offence, it's non-endorsable so who gives a crap about the miniscule risk of a £30 fine?

Honk away...

Common assault, potentially. Don't do it. Better to use the horn.

Hot from the highway code

The horn.

Use only while your vehicle is moving and you need to warn other road users of your presence. Never sound your horn aggressively.

You MUST NOT use your horn while stationary on the road when driving in a built up area between the hours of 11.30 pm and 7.00 am except when another vehicle poses a danger.

Law CUR reg 99

That's it. Another example of someone trying to bend the law to suit his own purposes. I can't see any law being broken. Toot away boys!

They got lost on the way to a large piece of duel carrageway which had previously been reduced from a 70 to a 30 for no reason, with no turn offs and as far away from a school or accident blackspot as humanly possible!

I've been doing this for ages, hooting at all those accident blackspots waiting to happen.

I even posted a thread about it last year too.

Officer!

By hooting my horn - I am saving lives! Really I am

Think of all those people and cyclists who would have been run over - had I not encouraged these people to kill their speed!

And how do you know it is not one of my ex-Liebchen?
