Lots of new camera signs going up on downhill northbound A21 Sevenoaks by-pass approaching junctions with A25/M25.
If the camera is going to be sited just before the junction, anybody really going for it deserves to get fined as that is a tricky situation. 2 exits onto the A25 followed by a sliproad for vehicles joining the A21 very closely followed by the exit to join M25 westbound. This results in lots of lane changing, I've never seen an accident there but witnessed a fair amount of panic braking. Presumably there have been anough crashes to justify a new camera.

I bet there will be lots more panic braking with the cameras in! So to make things "safer" they'll reduce the speed limit.

And don't assume cameras are placed where there have been "crashes", or even the requisite number of KSIs over the last 3 millenia. If it looks like a good revenue spot, then they go for it.

A colleague dislocated his knee yesterday stepping off the kerb. I bet this becomes a KSI statistic for that piece of road now, as it was after all a road accident.

Think it was Tuesday I noticed there were those pressure strips over the northbound lane just under the bridge on that section, and by Thursday all the camera signs had appeared!

I als haven't seen any accidents at that junction, and I would be interested to see the justification for a camera.

Having said that if a camera is justified by one death then it doesn't take much to justify a camera, as many fatal accidents will take place at spots which are not accident blackspots.

A bit further south on the A21 they put up a set of camera signs over a year ago, just south of the Pembury bypass. No cameras have appeared, so don't necessarily get your hopes up

if its the junction im thinking of (just on the sevenoaks side of the bridge) then that indeed can be a pretty hairy junction if you're not used to it. IMHO if a speed camera is put up it wont help a great deal as its the road layout that creates the danger rather than speed. TBH though i cant think of an obvious way to make it any better though, presumably neither can any of the planners/councillors which is why the speed camera is (potentially) going up.

I thought they weren't allowed signs without a camera? My guess is that the palce further down is a mobile camera site.

Having recently received an email from Rcheal Moon of Kent and Medway Camera Partnership I see that there is a mobile site on the A21 at Spray Hill due to residents concern about speeding.

Dunno about that, there's another camera sign a few hundred yards from my house. No camera and haven't seen a mobile unit on that road in the 12 years I've lived here.
