Scots urged to honk at camera vans
Motorists in Tayside are being encouraged to toot their horns at speed camera vans in protest at the use of the equipment.
Eamonn Scott of the Association of British Drivers is quoted as saying, "The partnership is pursuing a political and economic campaign against motorists, so sounding your horn is a legitimate form of protest, and lets these highwaymen hear in the clearest possible terms that the motorist in Tayside has had enough. "
The campaign is partly in reaction to an incident locally where a 78 year old woman was killed. Scott requested that monies raised by the local camera partnership be used to fund safety improvements at the junction. The request has been rejected as under Treasury rules, money raised from speeding fines isn't allowed to be spent on engineering projects.
A spokesman said: "Tayside Safety Camera Partnership is a road safety initiative. Its aim is to assist in the reduction of injury collisions occurring on Tayside's roads by informing drivers of the dangers of excessive and inappropriate speeds ."
The spokesman also warned that promotion of such a campaign of honking might be considered as inciting drivers to break the law.

I know that such an act could be deemed as obstructing the law, but surely one set of civilians is just as qualified as another to judge on whether the law was being broken at the time...
My buddy refused to speak with him, got back in his car and started to make a long mobile phone call. After about 5 minutes, the driver/operator of the talivan gave up, closed his doors and drove off.
I have noticed that they don't park in that lay-by since.

This could grow, collectively if we all leaned on the horn at every hump and gatso, the numptys that asked the council to install traffic enraging measures would soon be down the Town Hall.
Our excuse? sorry officer just warning of my approach at what must be a danger point!
Been doing that for ages. Come on, you lot.

Great! This is what the ABD comes up with.. If you see a camera van honk your horn!
I thought these folk campaigned for their issues.
This is not official ABD. Merely a Tayside member's suggestion.
I see you're a traffic engineer.
Your views are going to be interesting, but deriding the other side isn't a good start, sir.
