Anyone seen the Daily Mail?
Discussion
Page 2 of Today's Daily Mail is supposed to be a bit good, but unfortunaely the article isn't in the Scottish edition.
If anyone has it, I'd appreciate a scan. If it has to be scanned in bits, don't change any scanner settings between each part and I'll be able to put the bits back together.
Email the scans in high res without compression if poss to psmith@safespeed.org.uk
If you're sending a scan, please post a note here to stop anyone else wasting time and duplicating effort.
Many thanks.
Best Regards,
Paul Smith

Yeah it's a half-page story "Increase in road deaths is blamed on the cameras" basically the the government has confirmed that fatalities on the roads have risen since 2000; the article mentions an independent study (you?) which shows 5% increase in the last twelve months.

Here's the scan kindly provided by Luca Brazzi:
[Of course, I didn't say the number of "road deaths" had declined by 5% per annum since 1950 - I said the fatal accident rate had declined by 5.26% per annum on average between 1950 and 1993. See: www.safespeed.org.uk/fatality.html ]

I was on holiday in Dubai last week, and found Safespeed quoted in the Gulf News! Hopefully kept the page if you want it, Paul.
Really? Fame at last then!
I wouldn't mind seeing a scan, thanks, but at the present rate of publicity I'll soon have no chance to keep up with it all.

Heard a thing on the radio this morning that confirmed my fears.
The government have acknowledged the figures, and have decided to raise motorway limits to 80 mph.
So they're not going to do anything about the scameras, or the levels of real police officers, or anything we really want. Of course we can't 'complain' because they've 'given in' and raised limits meaninglessly because people do 80 anyway.

The morning DJ (runs up to about 11ish) mentioned it, said it was as a result of MPs analysing those traffic statistics that put speeding way down the list of problems. It was a quick 'this just in', so not from the news desk itself
