Traffic calming measures in Northampton have now got beyond a joke. Just about every road now has humps in it and Pelican crossings are appearing everywhere. And yet, pedestrians still insist on not using them - Why? And to cap it all, adverts on the back of buses proclaim, 'Your car, one ton of hard moving metal, a child, flesh and bone '(or some such analogy ). It should read, 'Your body, flesh and bone, and you'll get hurt if you step into the road without looking!' If councils spent money on teaching kids how to cross the road instead of persecuting the motorist, perhaps accidents will start to fall. Rant over!

at the weekend I narrowly missed some kids who decided to cross the road, from a row of parked cars, without looking. After a loud parp on the airhorns they ran back to mummy
Mummy didn't flinch from her cider and blackcurrant...

I can only think that more and more speed humps etc are going to lead more people to buy 4x4s to ride over the bumps without slowing down.

I've had some experience dealing with dumb pedestrians, at our local Tesco's.
In the car park, there are 3 pedestrian (zebra) crossings, and yet people still insist on crossing the road between them. I usually give them a toot of my horn, which will normally generate some kind of accusatory glare from said pedestrian. When I wind down my window and point at the zebra crossing 5m away, and ask them what those stripey lines are for, they start to look a little sheepish.

I assume that every kid is deaf and stupid and that every road is a minefield of children about to ambush me from a hidden vantage point near the road and I'm never surprised by the little f e c k e r s.

I have children and have witnessed their friends and their parents total lack of care. Whilst I have trained my kids (8 and 11) I constantly have to remind them about the dangers. My youngest can ride a bike, but can not use the brakes in a way that convinces me that she will ever be safe enough to use the pavement alone. My eldest has learned how to do 'Stoppies' but does not understand that they are inappropriate on the road.

For those that have a problem I think Tolerance is a word they should attempt to understand.

Jaywalking should certainly be enforced to a higher degree than it is now.

How about a £60 fine?

And three points on your walking license.

Once you get 12 points, your legs are impounded and you'll have to use pubic transport
