Just received French speeding ticket

I recently received the french equivilant of an NIP for an offence back at the start of January. I was not stopped at the time, and it's a UK registered car. Anyone had this happen before? Any advice on the best course of action?

The French are, unfortunately, cracking down on speeding - and also drink driving. AND they are collaborating in full now with uk authorities for points etc. Just take care.

something I thought I would ask on PH as others may be interested... bearing in mind the time you spend in France and with the TVR, what sort of speeds are safe to get away with and avoid the heavy arm of the law. I dont mind a 90euro fine, but talk of bans, impounding cars and jail sentances are a different matter!

cheers wrinkly, fortunately I've received the notification from the french police so hopefully no points involved. But are they still under a similar obligation to inform me within a set amount of time, i.e. the offence recorded on 4th jan, date of the notification 29th march!

I have read of the plans of the euroscumocrats to set up legislation, whereby points can be put on your UK licence for offences picked up abroad. I was not aware that the framework to do it had been "cast in stone" and was operational.

Hi Phil. et all. Driving in France has always been a pleasure, and still continues to be. Generally speaking, you can always drive 'making good progress', but new directives from the French government to reduce numbers killed/injured on the roads, have had some dramatic effects. Within approx. 50 miles of channnel ports, I now stick (more or less) to the limits - the roads are generally so good and clear that your average speed is pretty high anyway.

As stated before, drink driving is a definite no no. Limits are 50mg - less than uk at 80mg - and in some areas, they are actively watching bars and restaurants. (fortunately, in my area, they are actually IN the bars and restaurants - so that's ok). I attach a few links for those that are interested.

No. A vote for UKIP is two things:

1) A wasted vote

2) A vote to keep Labour in No10.

UKIP will never win a seat (barring a big-name, local-favourite MP jumping ship).

There are really only two parties in the UK. The others just absorb votes from people with an axe to grind, but are ultimately powerless and will ever be so.

May be true in the UK (2 weeks notification period I think?) but it's not the case in France. Frogplod have 1 year to catch up with you - in my case (I live there) they waited 10 months, followed by equivalent of magistrates court 5 months later. So a year and a 1/4 from offence to receiving my penalty.

Though Europlod are cooperating more and more, if you don't pay then I suspect that there is nothing that they can do. However, the NEXT time you go to France big brother's computer might spit out a "he's back" notice allowing Frogplod to screw you royally with a fine beefed up by non-payment. This last bit is my paranoia - suspect they're not that organised yet, but it's only a matter of time!

Change registration/vehicle before next visit back there?
