ABS Warning Light !
Discussion
It depends - some ABS lights come on when the ABS starts to operate. So it could be that you have just run over a Cow-Pat whilst braking - even if you had noticed the hazard and braked early and safely to compensate. On the other hand if the light illuminates fully under normal conditions, this implies a problem with the ABS system. It could indicate faulty brakes but really only indicates a faulty ABS system. A car should not pass an MOT with an ABS light lit so it probably is classed as an unroadworthy car.
If (say) a Fiesta fitted with optional ABS had the light illuminated would it show that the brakes were now any less efficient than a standard Fiesta?

Any part of a Braking System that is defective!
As above really......if its in anyway defective then its contrary to Reg 18 (Con and Use Regs) 1986 and of course good old Sec 41A RTA 1988.
Fail to maintian Braking system.![]()
What are you doing on here???? haven't you things to do....

Tony would you like to point this out to the MOT inspectorate?, seriously. I have been in dicussion with them over this exact subject.
Seriously 1/10 is extimated to be undersize according to my local mot stations.
This is the sort of thing that would /could make headline news, sod safety cameras lets have safe cars to start with please.

Unfortunately there is not a minimum thickness requirement for brake discs as part of the MOT, only that the disc is not excessively scored, pitted or
worn. You should also be aware that this judgement must be made without removing the wheels or dismantling of any type. I would advise you to contact your local Trading Standards office regarding the sale of the vehicle if you feel that it was sold in a dangerous condition.
