Assuming you either
a) Didnt declare previous convictions on the application form
or
b) made false claims on the CV regarding your previous work history/qualifications
then I wouldnt think you have a leg to stand on as you've purposely misinformed them.
A) definitely yesa) Didnt declare previous convictions on the application form

B) Not so sure about as far as either goes maybe qualifications if one was deemed a requirement for the job

Under the Rehabilitation Of Offenders Act 1974 you may or may not need to disclose previous convictions.
See: http://www.crb.homeoffice.gov.uk/about_crb/what_is...
If you were in the clear when you started the job then you have no need to worry.
If you weren't and failed to disclose offences that you should of then you might be SOL, as the job offer was probably conditional on a clean record.
However, they should of CRB'd you at the time (the offences would of come up), which clearly they either did not do, or the check was done and they were not concerned by the offences you failed to disclose.
Without knowing more its difficult to say if you have any recourse or not. I would recommend you call ACAS ( http://www.acas.org.uk) for further advice.
Edit: CRB has nothing to do with previous work history/qualifications. CRB is Criminal Records Bureau.
Work history/qualifications would be a background/reference check.
