Real Story on Speed cameras tonight BBC1 19.30
Discussion
Points so far:
1) dangerous driving causes >100 serious injuries/day
2) reckless driving, unroadworthy cars, driving under the influence of drink and drugs cause 20% of all road deaths
3) fewer Trafpols to catch dangerous drivers -- in Holland this was directly proportional to increased deaths
4) 1 in 10 drivers are uninsured
5) in Lincs, 104 deaths in 2003 (highest for 10 years)
6) Cutting death toll is "not a Home Office priority", "not core police business"
7) Home Office declined to comment

Teenage drivers:
- 1/3 of new drivers have an accident within 2 years
- featured girl "forgot" to wear seatbelt
- one father "need to look at the test again"
- other countries restrict speed/car size/number of passengers for new drivers (where??)
- featured boy driving with his knees while eating (not donuts!)
Old drivers:
- 70-year-old as likely to have an accident as a 17-year-old
- in 10 years there will be more OAP drivers than under 30
- older drivers drive more slowly, more cautiously, hence are a hazard
- examples: wrong way round roundabout and along dual carriageway, poor eyesight
- self-certification of "fit to drive" is a joke.
Overall, a strong message that road safety is down to people's skill and attitude, plus the need for more traffic police to pick up the dangerous drivers. Almost no support for speed cameras, and no mention of the "one third lie". Something of a result, then.

Interesting seeing the teenagers in front of their parents. Although they were a bit embarressed about being seen driving without holding the steering wheel, not wearing a seatbelt etc, you could see they didn't really think it was a big deal. Would have been useful to show them the reasons why it's important.

Maybe in a practical sense....

But he thought it was OK to drive no handed and using his knees because he was going in a straight line. FFS what if a kiddy had pulled out in front of him or worse, the doddery old bloke in the A35. My dads 77, and stopped driving 8 years ago when he nearly had an accident. His first for 30 years and, it was not his fault. A simular aged person pulled out in front of him. He decided the roads of South Wales were too dangerous after driving in Slough.

Typical kids, young-dum and full of cum.
If the cake eating spazzer didnt understand why its absolutley necessary to have at least one hand on the wheel at all times, then he needs a little re-education, preferably with a size 12 hobnail up his thick arse.
Incidentally, if by some miracle if he's reading this: The reason you need hands on the wheel is to preserve yours and everyone elses lives you muppet.
If thats no big deal to him then he needs removing from the road.
Such dumass stupidity isnt "cool" or clever, its retarded and shows that he's simply not mature enough and has the wrong attitude towards being a driver.

Made me mad when I saw that f***** muppet driving the car the wrong way down a dual carriageway and mowing down that poor bloke and carrying him along on the bonnet.
2 years (1 year if he behaves whilst inside) is bloody ridiculous for that. They should have locked him up and thrown away the key. The guy who got mown down has got the rest of his life to suffer now.
The law is an ass. This country is going downhill rapidly.

Absolutley horrendous. Seemed to me that the bastard that did it was intent on hitting others too.
I cant understand the logic of 2 and a bit years for what he's done.
That sentence reflects everything thats wrong in this country.
Amazes me that there aren't more than 3500 people killed every year after watching that
Removing all these careless idiots, that don't give driving the respect and attention it deserves would improve safety and cut congestion, making the roads a pleasure to drive on - rather than the stressfull tedium it often is these days
