If I was on the way to rescue my brother who had totaled his car in a ditch (he hadn't but I wasn't sure where it was at the time) or My wife was in labour etc.

My brother had a close call on Saturday night (in general gassing) and I travelled pretty quickly in order to reach him along the A303 - well into long ban speeds.

If I was pulled over (and I wasn't, this is hipothetical sic?) would I be likely to be given any kind of leniancy? If say for instance my wife was in labour and I was rushing her to the hospital and a Bib started chasing, bearing in mind that there would be no way I would pull over would it be possible to phone 999 (from a handsfree kit obviously) and ask them to explain to the pursuing chap (or Chapess) what the situation was and if they wish to follow me to the hospital that is fine but please do not go sticking spikes in the tyres (as seen on TV)

Would I be looking at a long ban or is there exceptional circumstances? it wouldn't make a difference obviously to me doing 130 on the way to a hospital etc. you do what you have to do, but I always wondered.

(Edited to say he wasn't in General Gassing when he had his close call )

Just pull over and when the copper comes over say 'please help, my wife is having a baby'.

Theres two options

a.)he helps deliver it
b.) he gives you an escort to the hospital.

If I was in his shoes I'd go for b.
