New skid marks

Spotted a mini gatso at the side of the A35 last night. As I passed in the opposite direction it caught 2 drivers. On my way home, I tried to work out where it had been. Easy to work out, a brand new skid mark about 30 foot long !!!!!. Gotta say, anybody who didn't see this one needs more than a fixed penalty.....more like an eye test !!! It even had a temporary warning sign about 200 yards before it (do they have to do that?). The only reason I could think they would be topping 70, would be it's the first bit of DC for about 10 miles.

Very true Tonyrec. It struck ne the other day, when er indoors had to have new, more powerful contact lenses and specs. I think drivers should have to have an eye test every 10 years. It's not a lot to ask, missus paid £18.50, at that high street opticians the adverts tell you you should have gone to.
I think it would do a great deal more for road safety than ever increasing numbers of Gatsos.

GET THE OFF THE ROAD!!!!!!! You're right about the eyesight thing, my father was tracking a wheeled digger between two fields, when a woman drove into him. Her excuse "sorry didn't see you". He asked her if she often missed something that was 13 feet high, painted bright yellow, and had a flashing beacon on top of it !!

10 years is too long. My prescription has changed quite a lot in that time. A person's eye sight can deteriorate quite markedly in 2 years let alone 10

Ummm....agreed but at the moment it wont matter untill i get to 75! I'm up for driving tests every 10years. That way we'll employ a few people and have safer roads.
I have glasses i went for a test last month,During the test the guy changed screens and up flast a number plate i asked him what was that he put it back on and said that it was to test the legal requirment for driving,So i read it without my glasses and passed that means i can drive without them
But i feel unsafe now i know how bad someone eye sight has got to be unlawful, Because i would never ever drive without them but there are drivers out there who are half blind.

OAP crossing the road knocked over and killed by OAP driver who could see about 8 metres in front of him, when sat in his car with his glasses on.
Does make you think though how many people have poor vision, usually people who can`t see a traffic car with blues/twos going.......right on their six!!

I can vouch for the crap vision, or twatty public. I was in an IRV (Astra size response car to those non job peeps) doing nearly 55 along a road, all the cars on our side nicely pulling in, and mr pushbike man decides he can get across with us approaching rapidly, blues/twos and flashy headlights on, and we had to slam anchors on and missed him by 6 inches! If only weren't answering the call, he would have got such a bollokin

Yeah, I remember that - an absolute classic. He then goes on to describe the response of road users coming the other way - "Did you see the size of that bloke's head?"
