Just been out for a spin, and for the first time in 4 yrs, I got a Tug 
They were checking Tax / Insurance / Driver Profile etc...
Seems there is a crackdown in force, to get the dealers and scum off the streets.
appluaded the BiB for the initiative (my disc isnt displayed, i keep it in the GloveBox.. long story, short being last one got theived when roof was left down.)
I have no quams with being tugged every so often, if it gets the uninsured scum off the roads..
had a brief chat about cars, and I was off again.
So, anyone driving around the Newham/Becton area.. Wave your tax discs

Don't do it
I lost a disc....went to DVLA for duplicate....had to wait as DVLA not yet updated renewal details from Post Office.....carried letter from DVLA acknowledging all this....
Got fined because a Traffic Wombat saw me drive past, not displaying disc.
Wasted two days getting fixed penalty squashed.

Produce the real one from your wallet. any pond life stealing your copy won't last long anyway.

This might see you sitting for 6 hours in the pokey when you are arrested for forgery and charged with that offence! (even if it is your own disc)
The reason for the action in the first place is that Road Tax Discs are now a VERY expensive item.
The scrotes on the streets, who seem to roam at will (unlike the more lawful people who get pulled for the slightest thing!) will steal these discs to run their vehicles without TAX - INSURANCE - LICENCE.
Any owner of a Motor cycle, or Open top car, is likely IN THE REAL WORLD, to loose their Tax Disc every week! and would be req'd to replace it at some cost to themselves.
If the Law cannot differentiate between self defence and criminal activity, Then it truly IS an ASS!
Once again we see how the system persecutes the VICTIM, and you want respect from US!

This very definitely falls into the 'haven't you got anything better to do' category There is no intention to defraud if it's your own disc ferchrissakes.

If that is the case what would be your suggested solution to displaying a tax disc in an opentop sportscar or a bike?? Is Jamie's solution the recommended?
May I suggest a bolted down, bolted together tax disc holder, such as the alloy waterproof type used on motorbikes......This would mean you either have to break it....may not be easy and would attract attention, or require tools to remove it, again slow and attracts attn.....should deter the casual thief.
But may I suggest that police time would be better spent catching and dealing with the scroates that nick tax discs than, worrying about whether a law abiding citizen (in so much as they have paid for tax) is committing forgery by displaying a copy of a tax disc??? This is what is meant in the previous posts about targetting victims, the law abiding citizens are easier targets for the Police as we are not so devious and scheming as the criminal fraturnity.

Presumably if you were to be stopped by the Police and the tax disk checked and found to be a scanned copy, the Police would be within their rights to take you to the Police Station for questioning.
After all it might be your own disk but how are the Police to know the original is not in another car, or that you have not printed out scores of copies for your friends etc.
The best option would appear to be to put the disc in your glove box or wallet as at least you can produce it, and not get done for copying it. Even if you go through one of the DVLC cameras it will know you have a tax disc.

Every car is now on the DVLA database. Their adverts tell us that they know immediately our cars are untaxed or without SORN, and they will send the boys round.
So why do we need to display anything? If the DVLA knows the situation for each car then a piece of paper stuck to it is irrelevant.

Well I've got 2 old cars (Standard 8 estate and Lanchester) in the UK both with old numbers and neither of them are on their database, probably because they have green logbooks and not V5s (which I've never even seen!).....tried to get them with a temporary taxdisc for a two week runout 3 years ago and couldn't so had to do it with borrowed trade plates....

Let's face it, if that were the case, it wouldn't be a problem as there aren't enough on the roads for them to be likely to spot you anyway.

But how will we know without the proper enquiries, fingerprints photo, DNA, bail etc
It is not a question of defrauding. That is a different offence.
Forgery is the important one here!
