The figure I have seen for N Wales road deaths in 2003 is a rise of 13.8% These idiots are claiming they are on target for a reduction in KSI by 2010.
Disgraceful, digusting and deadly dangerous.

Daily Post said:So, these cameras won't be used to increase revenue from car, van and lorry drivers then? Just motorcyclists? I don't think so!
ROAD deaths in North Wales rose by 11% in the last year.

Insp Hughes said speed cameras would now be used on additional routes in a six-month pilot scheme to try and reduce motorcycle casualties.

Only decent motorcycling training and car awareness courses will reduce motorbike fatalities and injuries..
Just doing a motorcycle audit for my local authority (urban area) and its grim reading so far..
Are you? That's interesting.
I would love to see exhaustive crash cause analysis for motorbike fatals for an area or two, and especially any emerging or ongoing trends. I would especially be looking for an increase in SMIDSY / dozy car driver crash causes, as well as the BAB self inflicted factor they are all talking about.
Please send me anything you possibly can.

If you take the trouble to read it properly it doesn't say that at all.
Really? So what does this say?
But North Wales police are on target to reduce deaths and serious injuries by 40%, the police authority's performance review committee heard.
They are referring to the government's target of reducing road deaths by 40% by 2010 and have mentioned this many times in the Press in N. Wales.

I sometimes drive on A/B roads in North Wales and there are certain 'loop' routes taken by motorcyclists from the Midlands and Mancheter for a day out, and quite frankly the way many of them ride as well as their speed, is actually spoiling it for everyone else.
The sheer volume of them out for a spin on the weekend or any sunny day of the week, combined with the number that keep falling off, and ending up as statistics inevitably means more plod on the look out for speeders.

No surprise here. Dorset saw an increase in road deaths in the first year of the camera partnership's operation. All their press releases say is that accidents at camera sites went down.
In the Stratford Herald today is a story about an injury accident on the B4090 "at the same spot where 2 people died a month ago". A local resident comments that traffic has increased on the B4090 "since speed cameras were installed on the A435".
But of course, partnerships don't care what happens away from their cameras.....
I managed 5600 rpm on the A55 near Conway in 3rd (Top in my old auto) it was dark, raining and busy, but at that particular stretch there are no cameras so it was okay.
My point : Put more cameras up and I'll slow down for them, but in between them I'm going to drive like a looney. Hence casualities will go up.

Hmm... Saw for the first time ever on the western end of the A55, what appeared to be a Camera Van on the bridge (Conway turn off) between Penmaenhead tunnel and the Conwy River tunnel, last week.
The only markings on the side in fairly small letters were 'Heddlu' (Police) with no translation. A fairly innocuous looking vehicle. This was daytime tho'.
I think that the white van with "Heddlu" on the side is an ANPR van. These are normally accompanied by marked cars and bikes for catching tax dodgers etc!
I have it on good authority that they have been told not to concentrate too much on the A55 with regard to speeding.
Incidentally, North Wales plod used the helicopter to catch speeders - especially bikes at weekends.
You have been warned!!

Is there an on-line version of this story somewhere?
I find it quite amazing that the plods will go to the trouble of using a chopper that costs somewhere in the region of 10 grand an hour to operate (may be wrong here), to go looking for speeding cars!
WTF is wrong with them?
The Air Ambulance service is PUBLIC funded and dosent get the money these w*nkers are wasting, it has to operate on donations from from people willing to give, and its used to save lives, i know which usage I support!!!
Seems to be a totally useless waste of money by the plods for what? For nicking a few over the speed limit drivers?
What a bunch of idiots.
This kind of stupid wasteful useage of resources really winds me up. Its about time that something was done about such incompetent deployment of expensive and valuable effort and equipment.
Brunstrom had better pull his dumb looking face out of his thick arse and square this wasteage, as sooner or later he's gonna get held to account for his illogical actions, and that particular day will be a dammed fine one for motorists everywhere.
