Tiring drive - is it safe?
Discussion
Drove from Holmfirth to Wakefield at about 1am on Sunday Morning, and was knackered by the time I got there. It's a about 17 miles, has nothing more than a 40MPH limit even though we have long sweeping country roads, and is peppered by more speed cameras that I've ever seen in my lifetime. You just can't keep a track on what the speed limit is. Is it 30? is it 40?. what do you do?, stop and reverse up to check what the speed limit is every time you see a camera looming, or just keep slowing to 30 to make sure?
Totally empty roads, and it's a real struggle to just trundle along. Journey took a damn site longer than it needed to, and I was knackered at the end of it.
Is this road safety at it's best do you think?

Unscrew the plates and just drive normally at that time of the morning.
Hmm; that could be a good idea. In the unlikely event of being stopped by police, one could always claim the plates had been nicked and no-one had noticed. What would be the penalty for no plates?
I guess the plates would have to be hidden away somewhere in the car where they would not be found or it could lead to a more serious charge.
A bag with a large magnet in it under the car perhaps!!
Got flashed by a GATSO in Lewisham on Sunday evening. I know, I know: poor observation etc., but there's just so much going on: the lanes are forever jiggling about (you need the left lane to go straight on, no! the middle lane, no! the right lane, no! the left...). Whether you're allowed to drive in the bus lane or not changes every few hundred yards. You're never quite sure if the limit is 30 or 40 as the roads are continually swapping from single to dual carriageway. There's more street furniture than you could count. Uninsured & unlicenced chav's aplenty screeching about in rusty old sheds. Idiot pedestrians jumping out from behind every obstacle.
If I was to commit enough concentration to spot the cameras, the prevailing speed limit and sticking religiously to the limits, there'd soon be an accident.
The few times I need to drive here I try to stick to 30 just to remove one of the variables. Must have failed this time, though, as the flash alerted me to my mistake. The Focus was showing an indicated speed somewhere between 35 and 40, so maybe 35mph actual road speed. Aaaaaargh! Wouldn't mind so much if I'd actually been pressing on, not just bimbling along...
Oh well. See what happens in the next 2 weeks. Maybe it was out of film

Snip

Snip
Ironically, I believe it's a £30 unendorsable offence. Just waiting for my micro bike plates to turn up, I've had enough.
Sure the BiB will put me straight on that.
Mind you, those truvelo's are a hoot on a bike

That road is
ing annoying isn't it? I went into the Sainsbury to get some flowers for dinner host. On way out I needed to turn right, so turned into right lane to find out it actually goes left
Ended up Southbound and after 3 "no U turn" signs it had to be done

Yes, and there are people who will tell you that, because you didn't see the camera, you weren't concentrating properly!

Yeah. That's what annoys me (that and missing the damn thing in the 1st place).
Ironically, had it not been a Sunday evening (i.e. the traffic was relatively light) there'd have been little or no danger of creeping over 30mph!

Perhaps pdV6 was concentrating on his driving looking out for pedestrians et al not scamera spotting!!
