A four-year-old boy suffered serious head injuries after being knocked down at an accident blackspot on Wednesday morning.

It is believed the youngster was playing with a ball on the corner of Church Lane and Needwood Road, Bedford, when he stepped out in front of a car.

He was taken to the intensive care unit at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, where he was treated for serious head injuries. And although still undergoing tests, his condition yesterday was described as stable.

Patrick Naughton, ward councillor for the area, is calling for speed cameras to be installed on the road.

How's about teaching kids not to play ball in the road

When discribing the accidents they didn't say speed was a contributing factor. So if I mow down a crossing patrol person at 15mph will they put up a speed camera?.......

Had a look at Accident blackspots in Leeds a while ago. Totally Unscientific as I just noticed that Parts of Harehills and Armley seemed to have more accidents involving kids than any other. Those areas have Very large terraced and back to back houses from the late 1800's early 1900's. Care to draw any conclusions???

It's sad that there are vultures looking out for any accident to justify installation of revenue cameras.

Any accident involving a child pedestrian is going to be more serious than with an adult pedestrian - pesky physics etc!

Where were this child's parents...?
