Class 2 driving licence question...

Bonjour all!

I wasn't too sure where to post this, so mods please feel free to move this if necessary...

Anyway, can you legally drive a 44T tractor unit on a class two licence if you drive it without any sort of trailer? i.e. takng it for fuel runs or down to the garage etc. I suspect the answer is yes, but I'm struggling to find anything that will confirm this.

Yes you can. Our class 2 drivers regularly take solo units out to fuel them up etc.

No you cant. You need to remove the 5th wheel as it is still a C+E and the mgw is still 44 tonne, even though it doesn't have a trailer, as one could still be attached. If there is no 5th wheel you can drive it on a class 2.

As above; you need a Class 1 licence to drive a tractor unit even without a trailer.

An artic unit is a rigid goods vehicle over 7.5t Class C until you couple a trailer over 750kg to at at which point it becomes C+E. The rules are clear and apply accross Europe.

There is no requirement to remove the 5th wheel or anything else. The 5th wheel being removed is for a whole different set of rules.

This! I drove tractor units on a category C license for years before i got my C+E, it's not articulated until it's towing a trailer.

This too. Regularly happens in a mulitude of comapnies I have dealings with.
