Took my Vette to Santa Pod on Sunday, have been as a spectator before but never as a participant...

My Best run was a 14.488 ET at 97.00 mph

Which I'm pretty chuffed with, that's roughly the same as the published figures from 1969 for my Spec of Car (L-46, M-21)

Pretty good value day, £25 to run your car, got 9 runs in and could have done more as I left early (was running out of Fuel!)

No other Vettes there, but there was a nice '67 Camaro with a 502 big block... mostly Imprezas, Supras and Corsas and stuff...

Well done, it took me 3-4 visits before I got my personal time down to the official time. Nine runs at the Pod on a RWYB day equals my record. The annoying thing for me was that the first run of the day was the fastest ! I'm sure Nige'll set something up early next year so we can have a mass invasion.

Yeah... I want to try and avoid getting on that particular slippery slope... 14.488 will do me for now, I was hoping for low 15s if I was lucky so I'm happy with what I got!

If I start going for 13s... then 12s... methinks things could start getting very expensive...

The gearing of my car isn't ideal for the 1/4 mile, I have to change into 4th at about 90, I noticed looking at some of the period road tests that a lot of the cars had longer gearing so could complete the quarter in 3rd...

Don't worry, the bug can be cured. I spent a lot of money determined to go faster and faster - not on mods, just driving to the strip and paying an arm and a leg to get in! Eventually, I got it down to a 13.8 at 105 and finally accepted that the car was never going to go significantly faster than that without slicks or serious mods and to be honest, you have to draw a line on how much you spend for 2.5 minutes entertainment.

I'll take the Z06 one day just to see how it runs but it doesn't really bother me any more although it took about 5 trips and 20 runs to work it out of my system. At that point, you know how fast your car is.

This guy seems to cover a quarter mile in 5.2 - with a rolling start, www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=134023&f=23&h=0

Some people spend all their money and 40 years of their lives.......but that is the price you pay for one glimpse of stocking top during a courtship
