There is a short report by a motoring journalist in this weeks Sunday Express magazine. In it he reports that the Corvette will once again be available in the U.K. direct rather than having to get one shipped in (£45,000 for the coupe, £8,000 more for the convertible). His report was very positive on all aspects with the exception 3 minor moans. Of the gearbox and with regard to the manual, it was 'too agricultural', the auto 'only has four gears where the competition has at least five' The other moans were that it is only left hand drive (although you very quickly get used to this) and the interior plastic was 'too hard'
Hee enthused about the power and the sound and stated that it really holds the road well. Not too bad an article from the british press.

Sounds like typical optimism about possible UK sales when you have to remember they didn't even have a C6 on the Vauxhall stand at Goodwood Festival of Speed a couple of weeks after the 2004 Le Mans victory (although I'm told there was one on the supercars stand). LHD is such a turn-off for mainstream UK buyers. They can form an orderly queue for the stuff that comes out of Blackpool or Malvern instead. Good luck to 'em!

I paid approx £35500 for a 2004 coupe which I had built to order from a Germany dealer only extra 12CD stacker, did not think the C6 would be approx 25% more in the U.S.?

Hmn I paid 36K for my new UK 2001 ordered from factory with A & B packs, manual box (£800+) and CD stacker. Cannot remember the exchange rate, was it circ 1.40 then? 45K as base price is a bloody big hike, probably getting on for 50%. Certainly makes the Boxster S a more attracive proposition especially with a fule guage that works and a depn rate than makes the Vette look like dumb investment of the year.

Back in 2001 the price differential on the vert was about 4K if I remember rightly; 8K is enormous

Whilst depreciation on the Vette can be high, you can certainly offset it by importing. You can save a minimum of £7k importing a Z06 for example on what you'd pay here.

Bear in mind also that 3 years ago, C5's were at their lowest £20k and that didn't change for 3 years, only the odd one being advertised at £18k. Whilst there is now one at 15k on Auto Trader, it's got 72k on the clock. So initial depreciation may be steep but later depreciation is sloth-like. Even now, I would regard the C5 as one of the slowest-depreciating cars on the market.

Remember also that the Boxsters et al have to be specced up to the roof to get a decent level of equipment that's standard on the Vette so the prices you see are not a true reflection of their retained value but rather reflect £10k worth of extras.

There also was a very favourable writeup in the Mail on Sunday yesterday. (In the financial mail section at the back)!
