I've been looking at this forum for a while now whilst researching whether to buy a C5 Vette.... and of course how to afford it. The news is that you guys should be working for GMs marketing department.... I am off to Nantwich to pick it up tomorrow, so you did a great job.

Thanks for your help - although you knew little about your input to my decision. There's another C5 in the Basingstoke Posse from tomorrow..... Hope to meet some of you folks one day.

Now I have to go and put a coathanger in my mouth to get it ready for the widest grin during the 200 mile drive home tomorrow....

Kev.

Congrats! You can take my place in the Basingstoke Posse as I am forming a new Posse in Gloucestershire
Remember.....a C5 only really sounds good when you get it above 3,500 RPM

I look forward to the pictures and full specification!

Congratulations on making one of the most sensible and fun purchases of your life. Look forward to seeing you around, maybe joining up with the Basingstoke possee on one of their trips up to the Surrey region Corvette meets.

Well done on a smart move - I take it you are buying from Chris Graham who has a superb reputation.

The bad news is that you have swelled the numbers of the Boringstoke loonies. There has been an underground movement for some time to disband them, and Vetteheadracer moving away was of great encouragement to the rest of us.....

Well done. Sadly, this spoils you for all future car-buying decisions. Having owned an American car, you will become seduced by the ease of ownership, the reliability, the looks, the painlessness of ownership and so forth.

Don't forget you now also qualify to go to all the American car shows at Billing, Americana and the like to share your passion with like-minded people. It's a big calendar.

What C5 did you buy?

If we relied on GM's marketing department we probably wouldn't be driving 'vettes at all

Anyway, - Congratulations, and remember to drive 'er like you stole it!

Thanks for all you kind welcoming replies folks.

I've bought a 2000 targa, red, six speed manual, Z51, hurst shifter, large chrome Z06 wheels, sports exhaust and a few other minor bits under the bonnet. It's had a bit of paint here and there - "cosmetic gatepost scrapes so they say". repairs not great, but easy to fix. Seems ok thru the bends, so maybe true that it was just a scrape.

It's also got "Colvette woz ere" engraved on the dash..... yes, he was the last owner. By the look of his previous posts, it should at least be run in.... hopefully not all the way to the ground :-D

Small snag... now can't pick it up till Friday. DAMMIT! Enjoy yourselves while I pine a lot for the next 2 days.

Many thanks... Yup, it was from Chris Graham. Actually, I am quite used to the type of "Boringstoke loonies", having previously piloted TVR's for 6+ years and been a member of the Hampshire mob. I'm looking forward to meeting them all.

I can understand the underground movement to disband the 'stokers, if it's anything like the Hants TVR crew, just one of us at a time would be enough, let alone a whole posse....

Cheers!

Take your pick from the following options here:

a) Cliff's sense of humour gets even better
b) Cliff hasn't read his bible lately

c) Vetteheadracer still hasn't had a haircut and continues to be mistaken for a girlie.

Steve, when you post your reply, look to the left under the word message and click on the smiles legend option. What to type and what you get is shown there.
